Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

Game 161: Phils drop Rosenberg's start (81-80)

The Phillies dropped their penultimate game last night, losing 4-2 to Washington in which the bullpen pitched the entire game. BJ Rosenberg pitched well in his start, before lasting only 4 innings before allowing Josh Lindblom to allow 2 runs in the 6th inning to earn the loss. No complaints about Manuel in this game, but it is certainly worth noting that the only 2 Phils' runs were from two Darin Ruf homers.

OMG, did you see where that ~almost as bad as Manuel~ Red Sox manager put in a nearly seven-run era pitcher vs. the Yankees with a two-run lead in the 9th inning?

Of course the Yankees came back and won. How sick they must feel in Baltimore. The pitcher Valentine brought in is up to a 7.04 era, after that disaster.

Why do horrible managers bring in dreadful minor league-caliber pitchers vs. the Yankees, with the game on the line?

Of course Manuel bringing in Lidge and his 8+ era in relief of Happ, in Yankee Stadium in June, three years ago, with a two-run lead in the ninth inning, will remain Manuel's all-time low, to my thinking. It cost Happ the ROY, too, in all probability.

Why do these bottom-feeder managers think that good offenses cannot torch their worst pitchers? It is truly masochistic.

Damn that Valentine, but at least we know HE will not be invited back for more of the same. Nor will he hook on with any other team as a manager - as it should be, unless Manuel becomes infirm and the Phillies are in a pinch.

Valentine was dreadful in the way he handled his pitching staff in Texas, why should it have been any different in Boston? What the hell where they thinking when they hired him? It's nuts, and the New York Yankees should not be given any GD favors with so much at stake the last week of the regular season!
