Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

Game 146: Howard starts against LHP, Phils score 0 runs (73-73)

Ryan Howard has a career OBP of only .305 against left-handed pitchers, and his 2012 line against lefties is an incredible .163/.209/.300; however, when Charlie Manuel saw that a lefty was starting Saturday for Houston, he decided to bat Howard 4th while giving Carlos Ruiz (.426 OBP this season vs. lefties) the night off. The result was a 5-0 defeat where they never had much of a chance, due to Kendrick's back-to-Earth start. The team does not have any margin for error; unfortunately the Phillies have a manager who makes one every single time a lefty starts for the other team.
