Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

Game 60: Phils light up Arietta, Papelbon used properly up 3 (29-31)

The Phils remain 6 games out of first place after last night's 9-6 victory over Baltimore. Jim Thome had a big night batting out of the cleanup position with 3 hits. Joe Blanton struggled again, allowing 5 runs through 6.7 innings. I don't really have any complaints for Manuel tonight, other than batting Carlos Ruiz behind Thome and Juan Pierre. Perhaps Manuel thinks it is still 2003.

Normally we don't like when Jonathan Papelbon is used up by 3 runs, but against a strong Baltimore lineup and with an off-day looming on Monday, there's no issue here.

Today the Phils play at 4:05 pm when Vance Worley faces RHP Tommy Hunter.
