Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

Game 97: Vance does it again (61-36)

This game was clearly different from the rest of the games in this series – the offense produced early and often. Michael Martinez continues to “produce” from the 2-hole. Chase Utley had two doubles, Worley had one, Schneider had one, and Rollins had one (in addition to one homer from each side of the plate).

Worley has been absolutely phenomenal this season, and his peripherals suggest that it’s not all luck. His walk rate is pretty high. His BABIP is pretty low, and his HR/FB rate is pretty low. However, he is striking out nearly 7 batters/9 innings. He’s got a 3.19 FIP and a 3.99 xFIP. However you look at it, he’s doing pretty well as a 4th/5th starter. He shouldn’t need to be either a 4 or a 5 come playoff time as Blanton or Oswalt will hopefully be back, and the rotation will only consist of 4 pitchers. Should the Phillies trade Worley for a VIABLE bat (read: not Francoeur or Melky Cabrera)/relief option, you won’t hear a peep out of me.

The Phillies ended up winning the series against the Cubs after scoring just 1 run in the first 16 innings.
