The Phils offense did not really help much, as they only mustered 7 base runners all night. Maybe John Mayberry (.745 OPS) should bat 2nd instead of Martinez (.556 OPS). It's just atrocious that Manuel continues to let Martinez bat second. I'd be perfectly okay with Ruiz and his team leading .368 OBP batting 2nd as well. Hey, let's have our worst on base guy set the table for our best hitters. I hope Utley and Howard don't mind using their hands as cups because Martinez frequently does a poor job at setting said table. Hell, sometimes he even forgets the plates. (I know, I'm on a roll tonight).
Aside from that, there's not really much the manager can do with the numerous pitchers on the DL, and his starter needing to be lifted from the game in the 5th.

Unfortunately, Charlie probably views Martinez's fluky and limited, but clutch recent production out of the 2-hole as justification for keeping him there. By the way, my comments about lineup optimization following the Game 93 write-up were not at all a vote for keeping Martinez in the 2-hole, but they do address some questions that I have had about the lineup optimization methodology and findings.
That's definitely an interesting way to look at it. Did you come up with that on your own or did you read that somewhere? If you read it, where, because I'm interested.
Thanks
I came up with it on my own. I will admit that I have not studied the lineup optimization material too thoroughly. I should probably read it, after which I will either learn that my question is addressed in the material or I can pose the question to Tango Tiger. Maybe one day when I have time.
I sent an e-mail to Tom Tango. I'll let you know if he replies and, if so, what he says.
Please and thank you.
I sent you an e-mail.
