Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

Game 73: Phillies collect 3 hits, provide no support for Hamels (45-28)

Jason Vargas is a decent pitcher, but he definitely should not be able to keep the Phillies offense down for 9 innings like he did on Sunday. The Phillies offense was woeful, and combined for only 5 base runners (3 Hs, 2 BBs). Cole Hamels pitched pretty well as he's been doing so far this season, as he allowed 7 hits and 0 walks to go with 6 strikeouts over 6.1 IP. He gave up a couple of bloop hits that were extremely unlucky.

Not really much to say bad about Manuel's strategic moves except that it seemed as if he were kind of giving up in the 8th by using Herndon. Not awful, but questionable for sure with the off day Monday. He used a pretty decent lineup as well that had Ibanez batting 7th with the LHP on the mound and Francisco and Ruiz batting 5th and 6th respectively.
