Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

Game 9: Phils win third straight series (7-2)

Cole Hamels pitched a gem this afternoon, throwing 7 innings of shutout ball in the Phils' 3-0 victory. Shane Victorino went 3-3 with a home run off Derek Lowe, and the Phils' bullpen made it four straight games without allowing a run.

Ryan Madson pitched the 8th inning easily and looked to have his filthy stuff working. I personally wanted Manuel to leave him in for the 9th, but I won't criticize him for going to Jose Contreras like I normally would. The score was 3-0 going into the bottom of the 9th (a score that Contreras should easily handle), and the Phils seem to be intentionally keeping Madson out of save situations to avoid paying him more money after his contract expires this year. There is a very good chance Manuel is getting orders from above to keep Madson out of the 9th inning as much as possible, so we'll pick our spots with our criticism of Manuel's bullpen moves. Don't worry though: as long as Romero is on this team, we'll never run out of material.

The Phils head to DC on Tuesday night when Big Joe Blanton faces RHP Livan Hernandez at 7:05 pm.
