Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

Game 2: Phils cruise to victory (2-0)

The Phillies offense dominated Wandy Rodriguez last night, a pitcher against whom they usually struggle. All 8 position starters in lineup got at least one hit, and Cliff Lee threw 111 pitches over 7 strong innings of work, allowing three runs. Danys Baez and Jose Contreras each pitched one inning to close out the 9-4 win.

Charlie Manuel had a pretty easy night. It was a relief to see him use Contreras in the 9th inning instead of his best reliever (Madson), but it's obviously too early in the year to suggest that Manuel is changing his ways.

Danys Baez allowed the only run out of the bullpen. The bullpen is thinned out right now because of the injury to Brad Lidge. Baez had an awful year last year (1.63 WHIP), but he's just two years removed from a 1.13 WHIP in the American League. His BABIP-allowed last year was .322, as opposed to his career .279 average. With the injury to Brad Lidge, the potential for a turn-around for Baez is significant.

Today the Phils go for the sweep as Roy Oswalt faces RHP Bud Norris at 1:35pm.
