Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

Game 139: Lineup covers for Oswalt (79-60)

The Phils won last night despite a mediocre start from Roy Oswalt, thanks to a 5-run second inning. Except for Carlos Ruiz hitting in the 8th position, Charlie Manuel managed the pretty well. In fact, when JC Romero walked the first batter he faced (a lefty), he immediately removed him from the game because two righties were coming up to the plate next. Ryan Madson then came in and retired the next three batters. Exhibit number 293 why Romero should never face a right-handed batter.

The Phils only split their doubleheader with the Marlins but pulled within 0.5 games of Atlanta for first place thanks to their loss to Pittsburgh. The Giants won, however, decreasing the wild-card lead to only 1.5 games.

Tonight Big Joe Blanton faces RHP Chris Volstad at 7:05 pm in game 3 of the four-game set.
