Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

Game 125: Umpires blow another game, this time in 16 innings (70-55)

In the bottom of the 16th inning, Ryan Howard was called out on a non-swing with the winning run on second base and two outs because the third base umpire didn't like Howard's mannerisms. Such an absurd sentence to write, but it's true. He struck out, then ejected, Howard from a game in which there were no bench players remaining because of a personal grudge. It's too bad he didn't get 3 actual strikes, because the Phils could have actually won this game. Instead, they lost in 16 innings with Roy Oswalt in the 4-hole and David Herndon as the losing pitcher.

I don't think Manuel really made any mistakes tonight. The umpires are the main focus in this one.

Tomorrow the Phils try to avoid a series loss as Roy Halladay faces LHP J.A. Happ at 7:05 pm.
