Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

Game 119: Phils take 2-game wild card lead (68-51)

Tonight Joe Blanton pitched a strong 6 1/3 innings while allowing only 2 runs to earn the victory over the Giants, 8-2. The bullpen allowed no runs. Charlie Manuel did a good job by removing Blanton at the right time with the tying run at the plate, and Chad Durbin came in and got a double play ball on his first batter.

Two things: Ruiz HAS to move up in the order. He knocked a triple with 2 outs in the second inning tonight, but since he was batting 8th, his triple was wasted when Blanton flied out.

Also, why would Ryan Madson pitch the 8th inning when the score was 7-2? The game is clearly in hand, and Madson pitched last night. If he pitches tomorrow, it is very likely he would be unavailable Friday. If the Phils lose a game where Madson pitches poorly or doesn't pitch at all the next two nights, the manager will not be blameless.

Tomorrow night the Phils go for the sweep when Cole Hamels faces LHP Jonathan Sanchez.
