Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

Game 113: Oswalt wins one for the Phils (63-50)

After the 2-0 victory tonight, the Phillies will be leading the wild card race later tonight if the Cubs can knock off the Giants. Roy Oswalt pitched 7 strong innings. This is the exact type of game the Phils need him to win if they want to make the playoffs. Manuel made no real mistakes tonight -- he let Madson face LA's most dangerous lefties instead of Lidge (although that was probably unintentional) -- except for the usual lineup mistakes, such as still allowing Rollins to lead off and placing Domonic Brown ahead of Carlos Ruiz. Regardless, he made no glaring mistakes in tonight's game. The Braves won today, so the Phils remain 2.5 out of the division.

Ross Gload left the game after a pulled groin/hamstring, and my bet is he will go on the DL. Good news for Domonic Brown, actually, because he might actually stay with the team when Victorino returns on Friday. Hopefully he'll start to draw more than one walk per 40 plate appearances.

Tomorrow night the Phils go for the series victory at 7:05 pm when Big Joe Blanton faces LHP Clayton Kershaw.
