Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

Tonight is the biggest game of the year

The Phillies are only 3.5 games out of the wild card, which is pretty remarkable considering their 2-5 record since the all-star break. One of the teams ahead of them in wild card race is Colorado. Tonight the Rockies are throwing Aaron Cook, who generally shuts down the Phillies.

Since Roy Halladay is on the mound tonight and the next three scheduled starters are Kyle Kendrick, J.A. Happ, and Joe Blanton, the Phils essentially need a win tonight to avoid a series loss (especially since Ubaldo Jimenez pitches tomorrow). Manuel needs to sell out to win tonight, even if that means over-using the bullpen in a way he normally wouldn't during the regular season.

If the Phils lose tonight, they will be 3 games behind Colorado. And considering the pitching matchups for the final three games of this wrap-around series, it will probably be more than 3 by 5pm on Monday.
