Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

Game 98: Phils pull within 5 games of Atlanta (52-46)

The Phils came back to beat Colorado yesterday by a score of 4-3. Charlie Manuel managed the bullpen pretty well, not making any obvious mistakes. He again used JC Romero against only one batter, which is an unexpectedly good sign.

Manuel was not perfect yesterday. Cody Ransom started at third base. Fine. But, he hit seventh, one spot ahead of Carlos Ruiz. There is no question who the better player is, so when the Phillies had 2nd and 3rd with one out in the 4th inning yesterday, the Rockies intentionally walked Ben Francisco to get to Ransom. Ransom struck out, and Ruiz grounded out to end the inning. Manuel, of course, didn't have to answer for that senseless decision after the game.

Today the Phillies go for the sweep as Joe Blanton faces RHP Jason Hammel at 1:05.
