Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

Game 56: Phils score once, manage only a split with Padres (30-26)

It seemed that after the Phils took the first two games of this series against first-place San Diego that things might be turning around for the Phillies. But, they scored only 6 runs in the final two games to turn a series they easily could have swept into a split. Tonight, the Phils wasted a great outing by Cole Hamels (8 innings, two runs) in the 3-1 loss. The only run came in the ninth inning.

There's nothing to say about the manager. The bad news is obvious; the good news is that the Phils are only two games out of first place because Atlanta lost

Tomorrow night the Phillies open a 3-game set against Florida when Kyle Kendrick faces RHP Chris Volstad at 7:05 pm.
