Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

Game 146: Phils continue to roll (86-60)

The Phillies (Ryan Howard) barely beat Tim Hudson last night. J.A. Happ only lasted 3 innings before being removed for "precautionary reasons". Kyle Kendrick came in to pitch 4 scoreless innings in long relief. Had he not pitched as effectively as he did, the 3 runs against Hudson probably would not have been enough. Charlie Manuel did keep Jayson Werth in the 5th spot while Raul Ibanez batted 6th. Against a RHP. Wow.

Since Victorino remained out last night, Ben Francisco got the start in CF. I'm not exactly sure how I feel about that. Most of his innings this year have been spent in LF (CF second most). RF would have more similar duties than CF, and I think Jayson Werth is probably a better defender. Not a huge deal, I just believe Werth can cover more ground than Francisco.

With the Phillies up by 4 in the 8th, Tyler Walker was brought in, and he struggled. He allowed 2 runs in .2 IP, and Ryan Madson was called in to get out of the 2 run game. He did so on 3 pitches. Since the Phillies tacked on 4 runs in the 9th, it was nice to see Durbin get the call in the 9th rather than someone important.

Tonight Pedro gets the start vs. Javier Vazquez.

But Madson was pinch hit for before the extra runs were tacked on.

and he was brought in the game with the bases empty.

Did not make much sense to me.
