Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

Game 143: Lee throws 9 shutout innings (83-60)

The Phillies defeated the Nationals yesterday, 5-0, as Cliff Lee threw a complete-game shutout.

Cliff Lee threw 124 pitches on the night, and I am not sure if it was the correct decision to send Lee back out to the mound for the 9th inning. Yes, it's nice to see a CG shutout, but Cliff Lee has thrown a ton of innings this year. He already has 216 innings under his belt, only 7 shy of his career high of 223. He has never appeared in the postseason before, so it probably will benefit Manuel to keep Lee's arm relatively fresh.

Manuel once again batted Raul Ibanez ahead of Jayson Werth. Ibanez's OBP is .345 on the season, and Werth's is .372. Regardless of their handed-ness (which would dictate Werth batting 5th anyway), you should not have such a high OBP batting so low in your lineup when you have a .345 and a .sub-.300 (Rollins) ahead of him.

Tonight, Big Joe Blanton faces RHP Livan Hernandez at 7:05 pm.
