Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

Game 141: Kendrick returns with a huge effort (81-60)

Kyle Kendrick won the first game of today's doubleheader, p;itching 7 1/3 innings in the Phils 5-4 victory. Brad Lidge got the save despite allowing 2 runs in the 9th inning.

I do not have a problem with Manuel's using Lidge in the ninth, even though Madson has pitched much better than Lidge this year: it was a 3-run game, so it would have been a mistake to use Madson with a sizeable lead, because they still had another game to play. Lidge allowed two runs, and he stranded the tying run on first. Shaky, yes, but Manuel is severely limited (especially in the front-end of a doubleheader).

My only problem was the presence of 3 straight lefties in the middle of the order. Werth's OBP is higher than Ibanez's, and the late-game lefty relievers love to see 3 straight southpaws. Werth must bat fifth.
