Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

Game 98: Hamels goes 8 in Phils win (58-40)

The Phillies beat Dan Haren tonight. Well, sort of. They certainly made him throw a ton of pitches early which led to an exit after just 5 IP. Victorino homered off of him early on, and then may or may not have hit a fair ball down the first base line for a double and an RBI. Most of the Phillies hitters really worked the count tonight, and had excellent at bats.

Hamels went 8 strong innings tonight. He gave up a solo homerun to the second batter of the game, and then went on to total 9 Ks in the remainder of the night.

The Phils were up 4-1 going into the bottom of the 9th, and Manuel used Lidge to close the game out. This marked the third game in a row in which Lidge appeared. He only threw 14 pitches tonight, but included a 2-run HR to Mark Reynolds. Maybe if Manuel didn't use him in pointless games, he may not have allowed that home run. Just a thought. In any event, the Phils are 18 games over .500.

Get Halladay.
