Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

Game 94: J.A. Happ loses first start (54-40)

The Phils lost their series opener last night against St. Louis by a score of 8-1. The Cards scored 4 runs in the 6th inning, and the Phils never really got anything going against right-handed starter Joel Pineiro.

There's not much to say about managerial decisions in a blow-out loss; however, I'm not sure I agree with Ryan Madson's appearance in the top of the 9th inning. The game was essentially over well before then, and it was Madson's third appearance in 4 nights. He didn't throw many pitches, but if he is needed to throw an inning or two in this afternoon's game, he could be unavailable for Sunday's game. At best, it's questionable to use your set-up man in a blowout when he has pitched in 2 of the past 3 games.

The Phillies try to even up the series this afternoon at 4:00 pm when RHP Rodrigo Lopez faces RHP Kyle Lohse.
