Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

Game 93: Phils win make-up game (54-39)

The Phillies defeated the Padres tonight in a make-up game from April 20 by a score of 9-4. Cole Hamels pitched 7 strong innings, allowing only 3 runs. Charlie Manuel conserved his bullpen efficiently by using Andrew Carpenter and Chan Ho Park to record the final 6 outs, saving the key components for this weekend's series against the hated St. Louis Cardinals.

Normally I do not like when Manuel stacks three lefties in a row (Utley, Howard, Ibanez). However, when they are facing a pitcher like Kevin Correia, who allows lefties to reach base at a .364 clip, it is not a terrible strategy. In addition, the Padres have only one LHP on the entire staff, so no complaints here.

The Phillies are 6.5 games ahead of the second-place Braves and Marlins heading into tomorrow night's 7:05 pm start, when LHP J.A. Happ faces RHP Joel Pineiro.
