Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

Game 87: Moyer shuts down Marlins again (49-38)

Jamie Moyer continues to own the Florida Marlins, pitching 7 shutout innings tonight while surrendering only one hit in the Phils' 4-0 win. Ryan Madson pitched a scoreless 8th inning while JC Romero finished the game with a scoreless ninth. Raul Ibanez drove in 3 of the 4 runs with two homers, and Ryan Howard added a solo home run.

With a relatively easy victory, there's not much on which to comment from the manager tonight. I do not like when Manuel stacks the 3 lefties in a row, but when the Phils are facing a RHP, Jayson Werth's .760 OPS is not good enough to place ahead of Utley, Howard, or Ibanez.

Props to Manuel for avoiding Brad Lidge tonight: he often goes to Lidge in the 9th when the Phils have a four-run lead. It's good to see Manuel give his closer a "rest."

Phils go for game two of the 4-game set tomorrow night at 7:10 pm when LHP Cole Hamels faces RHP Ricky Nolasco.
