Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

Game 55: El Bastardo helps ensure series split (33-22)

Bastardo pitched well for the second consecutive outing. Manuel went with a good lineup today. He dropped Rollins in the lineup, and Jimmy had a few good swings. He put Werth between Utley and Howard. What else could an obsessive Phillies' blogger ask for?

I also agreed with his pitching moves for the most part. He used Chan Ho Park to get out of a 6th inning 0 out, first and third jam. He allowed one run to score and went on to throw a scoreless 7th and 8th. The Phils tacked on a few runs in the next two innings to extend the score from 3-2 to 7-2. While I said I partly agree with the move of Chan Ho Park, I thought that Clay Condrey would have been the better person for the job in this situation. Condrey threw 8 pitches yesterday, and didn't pitch in Thursday or Friday night's game. No harm, no foul. Condrey is definitely the better choice though.

I also think it was okay to use Madson in the 9th today. The team suffered heartbreaking losses on both Friday and Saturday. Also, like Condrey, Madson pitched yesterday but not Thursday or Friday. He threw 25 pitches yesterday, and the Phils have a day off tomorrow.

The Phils open a series in New York on Tuesday. Hopefully their road success continues.
