Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

Game 50: Phils chase Peavy after 1 (30-20)

The Phils took an early 4-0 lead, which caused Jake Peavy to leave the game with "flu-like symptoms". They continued adding to their lead throughout the game. The only shaky point during the game was when Chan Ho Park entered in the 7th, and gave up 4 runs.

Antonio Bastardo's ML debut went almost flawlessly as he went 6 innings and gave up only 1 run. His command was a bit suspect at times, but had good velocity on his fastball which was his main pitch tonight.

Good job by Manuel to use Dobbs tonight instead of Feliz against Peavy who dominates righties.

Ideally, Park would have gone the 3 innings after Bastardo to finish the game. However, he stinks, and Durbin was needed to pitch the final two innings. However, he was not able to finish the game out, and Madson was questionably needed to close the game out with 2 outs in the 9th and the bases loaded. A "save situation". It would have been great to give him two nights off, but Manuel didn't trust Durbin to get the final out.

Good news. Brad Lidge got the night off. Better news, the Phils have won 5 straight. The best news of all?

Phils go for their second consecutive sweep tomorrow vs. the Pads.
