Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

Charlie Manuel is not happy

The Phillies lost a game today to the Yankees, 12-0. There were several mistakes, including two errors, as evidenced by this quote from manager Charlie Manuel:

"I think any game like that pisses you off and the best thing you can do is bleepin’ get out there and get on that bleepin’ bus and forget about that sonofabitch. That was a horebleep bleepin’ game and if I played in a bleepin’ game like that, I’d definitely bleepin’ take some good inventory of myself. That was a horsebleep bleepin’ game. They don’t get much worse than that. It was terrible."

This is why we like Charlie. He is not afraid to speak his mind, and he generally seems to know when and how to properly motivate his team. I saw a few Phils' spring training games first-hand last week, and I am not shocked at this quote. The Phils looked very poor defensively. However, today's date is only March 16, and the Phillies' current infield is devoid of Jimmy Rollins and a healthy Chase Utley, two of the best defenders in the entire world.

Do not look too far into Manuel's anger: the Phillies will be a great defensive team in 2009. Rollins and Utley are easily the best middle infield in the game, Feliz is among the best defensive third basemen, Victorino has extreme range and a power arm, Werth has good range and a strong arm, and Raul Ibanez' name is not Pat Burrell. Also, Carlos Ruiz had the lowest catcher's-ERA in the entire NL last year. As long as Ryan Howard doesn't throw too many balls into left field, the Phils' defense will be an asset to the team this year.

Andy, you lost me in your logic. You went on and on about how good our team is, and then said Ibanez's name isn't Burrell. This is clearly a detriment to the team. If you're serious in this criticism, I may have to permanently halve CM's staff

Apparently you've never seen Pat Burrell attempt to sprint...

Nothing detracting from that which is Pat Burrell will be tolerated from henceforth.
