Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

Raully?!?

Yea, that title sucks, but as one of my cohorts stated, "the Phillies don't care about making bad decisions, why should you?" so it's there. The Phillies signed 36 Raul Ibanez to a 3 year deal. He was signed in order to replace 32 year old Pat Burrell. Pat Burrell at least as far as everyone knows, loved Philadelphia. The Phillies didn't want to re-sign Burrell because he is starting to get too old. Well guess what. Ibanez already is that old. Don't get me wrong, over the last three years Raul Ibanez has had well above average seasons, but he is now 36, and will be 37 in June. His good years can't be numerous. While Burrell isn't fleet of foot, his past 4 years have been as good as, if not better than, Ibanez's last three. Chances are that Burrell has at least as many good seasons left as Ibanez. That is to say that Ibanez isn't on steroids which would explain his late career surge.

The Phillies did not sign a bad baseball player, they signed an old, questionable baseball player. A player whose reasons for NOT signing matched the same doubts about signing Pat Burrell.

Attn: Pat the Bat.
I love you forever and always.

Yours truly,
SG
