Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

Ho-Ho-Bo Derek Lowe

I'm not sure what that headline means, but the Phillies are reportedly offering some coin to free agent pitcher Derek Lowe. This is a good thing.

Lowe will not be another Adam Eaton or Fred E. Garcia...Lowe has posted WHIPs at 1.269 or below in four consecutive years, all while pitching at least 199 innings. He has posted ERAs below 4 in eight of the past ten seasons, and he is coming off a year where he threw 211 innings with a 3.24 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. Pholks, this would be the best free agent SP the Phils have signed in a long time. Yes, he's 35, but he's a groundball, finesse-type pitcher who relies on location moreso than velocity. And, yes, he's injured, but often that just means he will be an undervalued commodity. The Phils certainly have the cash to throw at him, what with all the merchandise I bought in late October/early November, so I would love to see this potential deal come through. Odds this happens? 15 percent - but it's better than 14.
