Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

Chase Utley out 4-6 months

Bad news. Chase Utley will undergo hip surgery which will sideline him 4-6 months. He was alleged to have been playing with an injured hip for much of the season, despite posting numbers in line with his career stats. I'm not a doctor (anymore), but I suspect that Utley could have had surgery in the middle of the season, putting his own health ahead of the team's. No one can really blame an athlete, whose only asset is his body, for doing that. Yet, Utley played through the pain and led his team to victory. He did not have an MVP season, but if Utley was not in this lineup for the final two months of the season, I don't think it's a stretch to say the Phillies would not have won the World Series (apologies to Eric Bruntlett's beard).

Given Utley's extreme work ethic - showing up at the park at noon for a 7pm game) - I suspect he will rehab sufficiently to be activated by mid-April, or even Opening Day.

To Chase Utley: Get fucking well.
