Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

Game 130: Feliz Navidad (71-59)

Not much to say about this game...the game was 1-1 when J.C. Romero walked a batter who eventually scored to give LA a 2-1 lead. However, the batter was left-handed and the matchup was favorable to Romero. There were two righties due up after the lefty Romero walked, and Ryan Madson came in to face them. Unfortunately, the move backfired as Madson allowed a wild pitch and a single to score the go-ahead run. I do not fault Charlie Manuel for this - with 2 outs and nobody on, he gave his team two favorable matchups (L-L and R-R) and it simply did not work. As Thomas Edison once said, shit happens.

Pedro Feliz hit a walk-off home run. Other than removing Pat Burrell in a one-run game in the 9th inning, Manuel did fine. Thankfully, the Burrell removal did not come back to haunt the team. The Phils are a half game back, somehow.
