Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

On Good Decisions

Since we love to point out even the most miniscule of bad Charlie Manuel decisions, we have to point out the good ones too. Because of the all-star break, Cole Hamels is going to pitch on Sunday against Arizona and then Friday in Miami. With that juggling of the rotation, J.A. - inconceivably pronounced 'Jay' - Happ will not have his next start until July 22 or 23. Therefore, the Phils have optioned him to AAA and promoted a righthanded bat for an extra man on the bench, under the assumption that Happ can be recalled before July 22 without missing a start at all. Good thinking. This new player should come in handy when Manuel inevitably burns his bench.
