Charlie Manuel frequently makes poor strategic decisions. The 11-million dollar scoreboard in left field would probably do a similar job. We guarantee a post analyzing Manuel's decisions for every Phillies game. Please click on our aliases below to email us.

Great Stat

Hey everyone!!!!!! It's me again. I'm soooo happy about everything Phillies right now.

I love how people reason why Hamels isn't an "all-star" this year by stating his W-L. These may be two of the dumbest stats (could be grouped into 1 category if the mood is right) to measure anything in baseball. A pitcher's getting a W or a L is nearly entirely dependent upon how well said pitcher's team plays offense that day. Perfect example. Cole's line tonight: 7 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 8 K. Hmmmmm seems really good to me. In 7 innings, he only gave up 2 runs (that's good). He only gave up 3 hits (thats really good, 2 of which were HRs, kind of upsetting), recorded 8 strike outs of the 21 outs he recorded (solid). So what's the problem.

He gets the loss. What an asshole. I can't believe him. He sucks. Why couldn't he have given up 9 runs in 5 innings pitched. I mean, if he had done that and our team had scored 10 runs, he probably gets the W.

Now, does everyone understand why W/L are ridiculous stats? He can give up 100 runs in 9 innings, but if the Phillies score 101, he gets the win. However, if he gives up 1 hit that is a homerun, and his team gets shutout, he gets the loss. GREAT STAT.
